When Did The Invaders Sail In?

Had happy hour with my favorite doctor (again) today…the office was packed, but she really doesn’t rush me.  That’s a tough job.

Today’s chemo feedback: chemo cycle 1 is working well, blood numbers in the right direction, pain subsiding already.  I’ve gone without pain pills most of the last 2 days and it is amazing how nice it can be to just get around and do small things after a few tough weeks.

More test results: turns out one type of Lymphoma wasn’t enough for me…so they found two.  Not that it changes treatment or prognosis much, but the “other” type (follicular) has probably been there for YEARS without symptoms or much activity.  But there were tell-tale signs in my blood test results going back over 5 years! The “out of range” numbers were kind of shrugged off since there weren’t any visible symptoms of anything wrong.  The lesson: don’t let your GP shrug off things that aren’t right!  Even if there was no immediate treatment called for, we would have been monitoring the situation much closer and would have begun the attack earlier once the initial low-grade follicular lymphoma morphed into the high-grade diffuse B-cell lymphoma.  I’ll be researching this a bit more…and we’re in the process of getting a review/second opinion from City of Hope.

And Today’s Real Highlight: Mark M invited me and Ben to his place on Sherwood today.  Ben has been taking sailing lessons, and Mark has an under-loved sailboat in need of a boy. Well, I had just the boy for the boat!  It was a beautiful day and a great few hours on the lake.  After a year of projects with Mark as general contractor, the place is a real wonderland – cozy and party-ready.

Dear Cliff, I’m glad to read that you are getting a second opinion from the City of Hope. We did that for Laura’s leukemia and while there was not much different that City of Hope would do, I felt that having them on board as consultants was in Laura’s best interests. We love you and expect that with your determination, your great attitude and your serious support team, you will kick the disease into oblivion. Cousin Bob
