Hold Please…your life will restart soon

You might have noticed I haven’t had much to post the last few days.  Mostly, I’m just waiting for (and kind of dreading) round 2 (starts Thursday) and wondering how I’ll feel each day.  In the meantime, it seems like my life has been put on hold.  No long term plans…no travel, no consulting gigs being pursued.

What has been becoming clearer as the new-order days go by: I have a very clear “big picture” purpose…just get rid of the lymphoma.  But on a day-to-day basis, I’m not quite sure what to do!  On the days when I’m really tired or really sick or really hurting, I guess I can just grit my teeth, hunker down and “rest the day away” (thanks for the Olympics!).  But on those other days, when I might not feel 100% but I *could* do something, I realize I don’t have much lined up to do…and many of the usual pastimes aren’t so practical.  So, I’m rebuilding my list with “appropriate” projects and, hopefully, that’ll be enough to keep boredom off the list of chemo symptoms.

Hmmm. Interesting. An opportunity to develop new interests. It may take a little time to hone in on a satisfying new interest, but I’d love to hear about it as you go through the process!

Remembering a recent leason learned, it is ok to rest. Resting is your body taking time to heal. That being said it is always better to rest outside and away from the house (beach or park). You’ll have time to rebuild your body when the Chemo is done.

Just some ideas: (a) build or rebuild a machine such as a car, motorcycle, or airplane, (b) remodel something in the house, (c) write a fiction or non-fiction book or publish some articles, (d) plant food in the garden, (e) day trade, (f) work on a political campaign, (g) visit every part of every park in a 20 mile radius, (h) provide some part-time help to an interesting start-up tech company, (i) take over Jordie’s job when he heads to Stanford, (j) organize photos, (k) learn a foreign language using Rosetta Stone and online tools, (l) write an app that would be useful in your medical care, such as one that interprets medical gibberish.

    Hi Cliffie,

Maybe you can volunteer when you feel up to it–maybe tutor a kid at your local school. I know schools would be happy to have a tutor with your level of experience and knowledge…
